Why Projects Succeed

Successful projects are both effective and efficient!

A quick analogy: In fire rescue, one skill honed is climbing ladders; firefighters climb ladders with great efficiency, several times quicker than others who are not trained.  This skill is often necessary for successful rescues.  However, getting quickly up the ladder but at the wrong building is a disaster!  Only the combination of efficient AND effective performance results in success.

When faced with a string of unsuccessful projects, too often the remedy is to focus primarily on new project management methodologies.  This response may address efficiencies, but not project effectiveness.  Though delivered on time and even on budget, projects too frequently are still not a success because they do not meet customers' expectations and requirements.

Successful projects are the result of thoroughly understanding customers' needs, designing successful solutions and efficiently executing - delivering both effectiveness and efficiency!
